IPS was established in May of 1985 by Kevin J. Gray. He brought IPS into the ranks of a crowded field of mechanical contractors in Toledo, Ohio, with the goal of sustaining profit and growth in the upcoming years and laying a firm foundation on which the company would prosper.
The early years were filled with aggressive market opportunities for IPS. The firm completed significant projects at the Chrysler Stamping Plant in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Ogihara Stamping Plant in Howell, Michigan, effectively putting IPS on the map as a key contender in the mechanical contracting world of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. These projects were essential in creating the image for the new company as an efficient, cost-effective contractor capable of managing sizable projects.
IPS realized steady growth over the next five years, expanding its specialty contracting capabilities to include electrical, millwright, and HVAC/R service trades. As a full-service contractor, IPS was able to work directly with the owner to deliver turnkey packages and further strengthen the firm’s reputation for integrity, quality performance, and safety. In 1993 IPS was awarded a multi-million project for Pro-Tec Coating Company, a division of USS/KOBE Steel in Leipsic, Ohio – the firm’s largest project to date.
As IPS grew in size over the next few years, so did the types of services it provided and the markets it served. IPS began working for large clients in the healthcare; institutional; power; refining; food and packaging; federal fuels; and steel industries on projects ranging from new construction of HVAC systems at major universities, to fuel system rehabilitation at Naval Air Stations across the US, to installation of refining equipment at one of the world’s leading integrated energy companies.
Today, IPS is 30 years strong with annual sales that exceed $100 million. IPS has two locations: Our 100,000 SF fabrication facility in Rossford, Ohio, and our new corporate headquarters, a renovation of a 100-year-old historic building in downtown Rossford, Ohio.
