AAA expands with acquisition of Smitty’s

AAA has officially acquired Smitty’s Automotive, adding the auto repair shop to its growing car care operation in northwest Ohio. Smitty’s Automotive has two car care centers located on Jackman Road and West Sylvania Avenue in Toledo. According to officials, the acquisition brings the number of AAA car care locations in northwest Ohio to six as the organization continues to invest in automotive services.

“We are excited to add Smitty’s to the AAA family, providing the same top-notch auto repair service that customers have come to expect,” said AAA Tire & Auto Service president Craig Sumerel.

Smitty’s Automotive has been in continuous operation for more than five decades and under the ownership of Roger Kwapich for the past 25 years. When Kwapich began contemplating retirement, he wanted to make sure his employees would be left in good hands.

“AAA has a great reputation and was able to offer a benefits package that would leave my employees in a better position,” said Kwapich. “Our employees and our customers will be well taken care of.”

According to officials, the two Smitty’s locations offer a combined 20 service bays for automotive services, including free air. AAA will invest in infrastructure equipment and showroom enhancements at both locations later this year. As with other AAA Tire & Auto locations, membership is not required for service.
